This is my first year growing Atlantic Giants and had a question on the color of the fruit as it grows. I am in Michigan and think I am doing fairly well as I have 5 pumpkins on 5 different plants over the 200lb mark as of today. My question is some of the fruit are turning orange from the yellow they started out as, does this mean these are done growing or will they continue to grow or are they just about done and starting to ripen? One mistake I have made is not shading them and this will be my top priority in the morning as it has been warm with a lot of cloudless days lately.

yes, place a sheet over them leaving the stem and blossom end exposed.

may still grow still......

It really depends on the genetics of the seed. I've grown 603 Muller seeds that produce red pumpkins and they start turning orange after day 20.

The sun matures them and adds the color..it may be to late to start shading them. How old are the pumpkins?

Thanks for the replies, the pumpkins are all roughly the same age pollinated July 10th through the 12th. It almost sounds like I should concentrate on a few of the smaller ones that aren't out of the "canopy" yet.
