What are these things and what are the signs that you have them?

I had a simlar problem about a week ago

The leaves past where the SVB went in will wilt, but the rest of the vine will look perfectly normal, and when you look closer you will see a hole or hump on the vine where it went in.

Well over the weekend I checked my vines just for kicks. Ended up pulling out about 6 of these nasty critters. I then sprayed with bayer 3 in one. These things really do a number on your stems and stumps.
