I have one that has been growing very consistently about 10 pounds a day until this last week. Monday it was at 256# and I noticed that he stem was split horizontally and was oozing a clear liquid. I seal it with captan paste and it looked like it was healing but when I measured it to day it was only at 259#. Should I pollinate a different one and get it going or pull the plant?

Are you sure the numbers are right? I'd measure again tomorrow and see where it is. If you really only got 3# of growth in a week and you have a stem problem, I'd say its most likely done.

I went back out last night and looked at very closely looking for soft spots and remeasured. I got the same measurments as I did yesterday morning so I am pretty sure it has stopped growing. I did find another spot that is oozing. Doesnt really look like a crack or split or anyrhing. I does look like a dark spot but is firm and oozing clear liquid. Any rhoughts? I will certainly let it grow for a few more day and measure again, maybe that severe storm we had this week did more than I thought. Although the other 2 plants seem to be doing great.

The weather here in NE Ohio has been very good except for more rainfall than normal, but my garden drains well so no problems there. However, I also lost both my pumpkins that were growing well. The 1098 Parks was at 90# a week ago and abruptly stopped growing. Two days later, soft brown spots appeared and rot had set in. Then on Sunday, my 1011 Richard had a daily weight gain of 20" and taped 201" OTT and 173#. Yesterday. no weight gain and none so far today. Trunks, vines and stems all look great, no sign of disease or wilting. This was my first year growing so this is very disappointing. I have several pollinations on both plants in the last week so we'll see what happens with them.
