Hello. I am fairly new here and have some questions. Due to very limited space, a couple of my pumpkins will be growing into my yard. While digging out the sod for the initial planting mounds, I noticed about 1 grub per sf of sod. My plan is to cut the grass real short as the vines grow. Should I put some GrubX down in the area where the vines will be? Also, what about other insecticides and fungicides? I plan on attempting to protect the vines by using chicken wire fencing which I will move/enlarge as the plant grows. I have some hungry (or bored) rabbits, squirrels and chipmunks that enjoy the fruits of my labor in the garden. In my veggie garden, I bury the fence about 2" in the soil, but will not be able to do that in the grass. Any suggestions?

I use wire fencing around my gardens but as far as my pumpkins I have never needed any protection. I have wild rabbits out back and plenty of squirrels but they have never gone near any pumpkins. Of course, they eat so much of my bird seed they don't need to look elsewhere. As far as growing into your yard it can be a pain trying to trim the grass growing around the vines but I have grown 300 lb pumpkins on my back lawn.

This is from 2005. We had 10 feet of dirt and the rest was all lawn. The pumpkins tap roots penetrate lawn with out a problem. The two in the pic were our 809 and 736 Young. The last few years we have expanded the dirt, just had to break the wife in gently.LOL

Interesting. When I was out in the garden messing around this morning, I noticed some bugs in the soil around the other plants. I was going to use Sevin granules on the grass for bugs, but was told that Sevin also kills worms. I transplanted them last weekend. I hope I didn't make a mistake by misting them with Ortho Max bug spray today. Any ideas?

Bayer tree and shrub with imadicloprid. Works well and does not kill all of your beneficials.(worms etc.)

Grubs found in the lawn right now are third instar (about to pupate into beetles) & therefore pose no threat. Having Imidacloprid in the soil is still good however since it will control cucumber beetles, aphids, etc.

We have the Bayer T & S at work. I'll get some and take back the Sevin granuals. Is the Bayer T & S for spraying on the plants or soil?
