Why is it that sometimes the plants you try to take care of the most, just die....ahhhhhhhh frustrating. The vine that I didnt take care of......well is now producing pumpkins and theres no need to self pollinate cause the bees have finally found my back yard and every morning there just loving it. Some of the bees looked like they were sleeping in a bed of pollen, fat and happy. Anyway im happy but sad in a sence.......Anyone else have this problem??

Welcome to the cruel world of giant pumpkin growing guys! The old saying "anything that can go wrong will go wrong" applies double in this hobby. I have not heard many growers who say "I had a perfect season"...unless of course they broke the world record. And I'm willing to bet they could even tell you of things that went wrong. As a matter of fact if you have not read Susan Warrens book "Backyard Giants" it is awesome reading. Even during a season in which Ron Wallace became the first to break 1500 lbs he and Pap had one obstacle after another. I guess you could say it's just all part fo the game.

Im glad im not the only one. The funny thing about the frustration is that I really enjoy growing pumpkins, mostly for my kids enjoyment of the final product, but its fun and thanks for the comments!!
