I was looking in a diary the last entry complained of 7 of 10(I think) seedlings having "club root". He posted a pic. of 1 seed w/4 or 5 roots extending from the seedling. If I had this I would have thought Great the more roots the better. What is club root? What Causes it ? Why is it a problem? Thanks Kevin

One of the problems with the club rooted seedlings is they would not push themselves out of the dirt. They stalled half way out and just sat there. Second thing is that they are way less vigourous than the regular seedlings at this point. They are half the size. On a good note...I have read that a few growers have grown huge fruit even after the seedling started as a club root (I think I read that Ron Wallaces 1502 was a club rooted seedling). I wasn't trying to say that a club rooted seedling won't make it but it is not a preferable condition in my book. Mark

A lot of growers have had clubs grow their personal bests. Several WR's I believe too. My 1370 was a club last year & it did well under less than ideal conditions.

Thanks I was getting a bit concerned. I'm Having enough germination problems, I was afraid I was going to have to lift the seeds to check them. With my luck I'd kill the ones that Finally did germ.
Thanks kevin

I would love a starting root system like that....add a slow starter and a double vine and I'll be extatic...all the traits of a monster maker
