The question is why not the traditional method when germinating seeds? I have a small garden, tomato-peppers-raspberry-strawberry-watermelon-corn-PUMPKIN's my favorite. I start all from seeds (except for the raspberry's)and plant indoors in a small dixi cup. Place them in a modified green house and weeks to come wala-bangbang they begin to seek the sun. So what is the reason for all this talk about soaking and such when it comes to seeds? Im new to all this but I feel that there is alot to learn. I started growing pumpkins because of my son and "WOW" its alot of fun. So lets hear the top 100 reasons, mainly your advise for the beginner!!!!!

I am novice compared to a lot of guys out here, but I believe the basic reason for everything is: They are trying to get every pound out of a pumpkin, and that process starts the moment you pull the seed out. Everything they do, is because it has been proven to help grow bigger pumpkins. That is why the world record continually gets broke year after year.

A lot of growers plant pumpkin seeds that are rare, hard to get or very expensive. So when it comes to germinating them we use "intensive care" methods to insure the best chance of germination.

Larger is traditional around here. LOL
A Dixie cup is anything but traditional. Unless you have good cloches, the smallest pot I'd use for AG's is a one gallon perennial container.
My Big-Zac & Skyrocket maters are in 16 oz Solo cups...for now.
There's nothing traditional about growing giants I suppose.
Value??? Yeah...We have over $1000 worth of seeds in one gallon containers right now & I'm wishing I'd used my old hinged sewer&drain pipe containers instead. LOL
