Those 4 foot shop lights work well and arent that expensive plus ya can use them in the shed or garage when your done. Keep the light close to plants that way they dont grow real tall searching for light. I had one plnat grow to tall once and actually fall over..I propped the plant back up and just got the light close to it and it stood right back up.

The root will reach the bottom of a 4" pot before it sprouts, use a bigger pot. I would start the seed about
1 week max before the last frost date for your area.
I put my plants out a few days after it sprouts.
You will gain nothing by starting the seed too early.
If it sits around too long it will get too tall and spindly. If you put it out too early the plant won't grow until the weather warms up anyway.

Doug, I started my seeds WAY to early last year. Planted in pots on April 18th. Ended up having to keep them indoors until the 5th of May so the weather would warm up. This year I won't start the seeds until somewhere between April 30th and May 5th. Last year I was pollinating as early as June 15th. To early I think.
