Hi;
my stepmother has told me she would like to try to grow a giant pumpkin so I am wondering if anyone has any seeds they would mind sparing? She is definitely not looking for any sort of record.......if it could top 100 pounds we'd be really impressed, never mind 1,000. she is a very good gardener. I would like a more orange pumpkin, or one that is a good carving shape, because they do a big haunted-barn thing every year at Halloween and I think it'd look cool to carve it.
also, I see all this stuff about hand-pollinating......I've never had to do that with any vegetables in my garden. why do you have to do it with pumpkins?
oh and they are located in Groton, MA.

Ekie, The hand pollinating does not have to be done. The bees will take care of the pollinating just like they do all other vegetables. The reason we hand pollinate is make a controlled cross between two plants. It's all about genetics and making new crosses. Send me an email and I will hook you up with some seeds.
