I am new to growing giant pumpkins. My "giants" so far have only been around 200 pounds. I am going to try foliar feeding this year to see if that helps. I had only been relying on compost and Miracle Gro. I know I have a lot to learn. I would love to grow some monsters, but know that I have to start with great seeds. Could anyone spare some? I would really appreciate it! Thank you so much in advance! Jenny B.

Jenda, I have a lot of seeds from last years pumpkins. I have seeds from a pumpkin that has a white skin. It was real neat to see a giant pumpkin turn white. No garentee that the rest will be white. you are welcome to some if you like . You can check out my diary to see them.

Thanks for the info, Richard B! I found the site very helpful. Shannon, I hadn't heard of the St. Croix Growers, but I plan on looking into it! So far, 200 pounds being my largest pumpkin looks like I'd have the puniest one of the lot. I have a question to pose--Why are there SO many giant pumpkin growers in New England and the eastern states? I haven't found as many sites from the Midwest. Just wondering . . . Thanks for all your responses so far! Jenny

I think. Mr. Dill's who lives in Nova Scotia, started alot of this, Dill's Atlantic Giant, it has worked its way down thru New England, working it's way west,, it is getting more and more popular,,there are also alot of growers in California, up the west coast, and Canada.

Okay. I obviously have A LOT to learn! What is Club SNGPG (I'm guessing--just because I'm pretty good at 'Wheel of Fortune', that the "GPG" stands for "Giant Pumpkin Growers". My next guess is that the "N" may stand for "national", but The "S" has me stumped . . ."Super"? No. "Sexy"? No. "Stupendous"? Maybe. "Stingy"? No--I'm getting some free seeds from a few of you. Hmmm. I need a lifeline here. I also don't know who Bob or Joe are, but I LOVE the e-mail address of "gr8 pumpkin.net" My 200-pounder was named "Linus" after the Peanuts character! Thanks again for all of your correspondence! Forty below windchills here yesterday and they are heading toward many of you. Stay warm and curl up with a nice seed catalog! Jenny

SNGPG is the Southern New England Giant Pumpkin Growers. I think you will be better off with a local club to start. Maybe Shannon can hook you up with the club. That and alot of reading will get you started. Don Langevin has three books How To Grow Giant Pumpkins I, II III which are great resources. If you want further reading Susan Warren wrote Backyard Giants recently about Ron and PAP. It is a great book with a great story.
