Hi, I was hoping to find someone in Delaware that is growing giant pumpkins and can help with a schedule for this climate. I am from Texas and will have to adjust to a new growing schedule. I have read as well that I can get free seeds. Does it make a difference if you get seeds from a pumpkin grown in your locale?

Mona, If you get your seeds germinated and in the garden by may 6th you will be fine. If this is your last frost date you will probably not have to protect them from frost like I need to in VT. Our last frost date is the 1st of June. The strategy your probably going to need to tackle is how to keep the plant happy in high heat. Some growers use shade cloth for this others use a misting water system. Also you may need to keep your new females shaded and cool for a good pollination to occur. If you would like some VT seeds send me an email and I will tell you my addy to send a bubble envelope to.

You were right Wayne. It's not like being up North at all. Everyone here has been great! (Guess you can tell I'm still adjusting to the "Northern Hospitality"! ha-ha. )
Hi Ed, When, Where and What is the Winter meeting? I've never been to VA. I've been to West VA, my husband made me take a 500 mile trip - each way - to go to Point Place West VA, to see where the "mothman" was and the silver bridge. Men!

Mona,
I am kind of a local I guess. I live about an hour away from Newark over in South Jersey. If you are looking for localized seeds I can give you a few from the 919 Wetzel. That seed line has spent 3 generations in the S Jersey local. If you need any assistance just drop me a line at atwetzel99@comcast.net and I will try to help you out.
