We just went out and measured all the pumpkins today and the patch is looking fairly ragged due to all these melon aphids that won't die. Sprayed so much insecticidal soap on the plants in the last month they are showing the wear. Anyway we have our totals for the year and will be removing the plants and taking the pumpkins indoors to get ready for halloween. Our smallest of 12 was 76 lbs but is still growing and the big guy is 184 lbs. That is our personal best!!! I added all the total weights came up with a 1242 lbs. Not bad for store bought seeds. We had 3 plants and we only lost one pumpkin that aborted. I learned alot this year and I wanted to thank all the people on this site. I know none of you feel you contributed to our "tiny totals" but I read your posts and diaries and listened in on the chatrooms and received lots of answers from my own posts. Followed suggestions and bought some books and just had a really great time! Our pumpkins are the biggest in out neighborhood (and the only plants we ever grew). This next year we would like to grow bigger and smarter. I will always be grateful and respectful to the growers who have been doing this hobby/sport/lifestyle for years and years. I realize what it must have taken to get where they are now. We thank all you for shortening the trip to "grower insanity" for the rest of us. We will be at our first ever weigh-off as a spectator in Half Moon Bay on Monday. Maybe after a few years we could even compete there. I wish you all the best!!!

Puter congradulations on your PB. This hobby is a little insane. I drove around 100 miles today just for soil amendments. That's crazy! I've got some seeds from my 06 812, a pretty good cross I believe if you are interested. kjtruong@wmconnect.com
