My pumpkin is only 13 old and is 25 lbs, but it seems to only grow at night. I measure it at 8 am and 8 pm. In the morning it will gain 4-5 lbs, but at 8 pm it is the same size, no growth. Is this how they normally grow?

Most growth will happen overnite.

Save yourself the stress and only measure once per day.....morning or evening it will not matter the gains will be constant....I measure in the morning for whatever reason.

Exactly....which is why I pray for WARM NIGHTS each year. My nights were cold this year and slowed my growth considerably even with extremely hot days.

During the day the plant is taking in nourishment, sun and water. At night the pumpkin grows as a result of the above to put it simply. We measure weekly with the exception of a few. Jack has set up a spread sheet chart the will add and calculate the formulas he has programed so we see estimate weight, growth, new inches, average weight or inches gained, etc. We compare to previous years growth.

I only measure once a week then devide the growth by 7 it will give you the average per day and cut down on your work and stress!

I enjoy getting up each morning and measuring, it is exciting to see how much it has grown. It is almost up to 40 lbs. and around here no one has seen a real giant pupkin so they think mine is big now, if they only knew.
