It's a sad day... I went away for two days/one night came home and my best pumpkin (which was probably only about 50lbs but I had big hopes!!) was covered in splits. I watered it before I left, actually gave it less water than I usually do because I was in a hurry...it didn't rain while I was gone...there were no visible splits or cracks before I left...I am wondering if the temperature would play a part, it has been getting quite cool here at night, we even had a frost warning about a week ago (but no frost)...or could it have something to do with the temperature of the water that I use, I get it from the lake and the temp in the lake has dropped to 62 degrees...cold water on a warm day? Any insight would be appreciated, I don't want to make the same mistake again next year!

poor thing never had a chance. sometimes they just try and grow to fast real early on and do blow up. it happens to many people and should not be as a result of anything you did. next year start earlier and pollinate a couple on the plant pap

Thanks Pap. I am disappointed and a little frustrated but will try again next year. I still have a little one on another vine but we are going to run out of time here in the north very shortly.
