NEW TO THE HOBBY PUMPKINHEADS

THE WORST THING THAT CAN HAPPEN WHEN GETTING INTO THIS HOBBY IS FAILURE.
BASED ON SOME OF THE COMMENTS I HAVE BEEN READING THIS SUMMER I HAVE CONCLUDED THAT THERE ARE MANY MANY NEW GROWERS THIS YEAR WHO REALLY NEED A HELPING HAND .
SOMEONE WHO HAS BEEN WHERE THEY ARE AND KNOWS THE PITFALLS OF THIS HOBBY CAN MAKE QUITE A DIFFERENCE.
NOTHING HURTS MORE THAN TO HAVE PROBLEMS AND NOT KNOW WHAT CAUSED IT OR WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT. BETTER YET HOW TO TAKE MEASURES SO IT DOES NOT HAPPEN.
IF ENOUGH INTEREST IS THERE I AM WILLING TO PUT TOGETHER A INFORMATIONAL BOOKLET THIS WINTER COMPLETE WITH GUIDANCE FROM SEED SELECTION,SOIL PREP,SEED START UP TO HARVEST, COMPLETE WITH A INTERMEDIATE TYPE SPRAY PROGRAM.
I CANT GUARENTEE A GIANT PUMPKIN BUT I CAN GUARENTEE YOU WILL HAVE THE AMMUNITION NEEDED TO BE SUCCESSFULL. THE REST WOULD BE UP TO YOU
I WOULD ONLY CHARGE A RECOVERY FEE FOR MY PRINTING AND SHIPMENT COSTS PLUS A SMALL PROFIT FOR THE "ORANGE ANGEL FOUNDATION" MY CHARITY ORGANIZATIONTHATS GEARED TO HELPING NEEDY CHILDREN
WHATS YOUR OPINION?

Sounds great pap. This is my rookie year trying to grow a giant. Ive grown pumpkins for years but these atlantic giants are a whole different story. Ive learned a lot this year from you and other growers. Ive gotten my but kicked by svbs and disease and not by lack of hard work. With a booklet like your speaking of probally will help a lot next year. Looking forward too it.

Sign me up. This is my first year and I am on this site everyday. I am keeping a "lessons learned" file so that I don't duplicate the same mistakes next year. The biggest thing that I've learned so far is that I need those 3 books...they are on my happy halloween gift list (that's like a Christmas list, but it just comes a few months earlier).

Pap,

I have co-workers that have ask me for seeds. Then once they get them started and you tell them what all they have to do to get to late September they look at you like your crazy (which more than a few of us are). It would be nice if it would help someone who doesn't want to do the whole BP.com. thing, but wants to try there hand at it. If that's the case put me down for 5 coppies.

Thanks

Kenny

Pap, I myself am a first year grower and am one of the ones who struggled this season. I think your idea is a great one. I bought a video just before starting my seeds this year and although it was helpful, the information given was not at all specific and left MANY blanks to be filled.

Having either a mentor, books or a booklet as you are talking about for quick reference would have made a big difference. I spent hours searching online before and even after I found this message board looking for answers and information and although I eventually found what I needed to know, having material of any kind would have made things easier and less time consuming.

If you worked out a deal with the webmaster of BP you may also be able to offer your material in e-book form on this site (or any site) which would eliminate printing costs and be more money for your foundation. First year growers who sign up here at BP can have the option to purchase your material right at sign up if they would like. Just a suggestion. I will buy one and also make a donation.

There is actually a Orange Winged Angel, taken from the bible, one of 10 (or is it nine) orders of angels. Type of angel Carrion, Totem Raven, Element Wind, Stone Opal, Wings White with an Orange Tint, Purpose Carriers of the dark entities, Function Fate,,,,This is a description of the carrion angel, one of the order of Gods Angels, just a fascinating fact, I thought.

This is an excellent idea as we have had many questions and worries. There have been posts in the past telling us to read all we can before using the message board for answers. I would read this book. Maybe a lot of close up pictures showing various disease conditions and insects on plants and common control practices would be real helpful. Not knowing what conditions we were looking at made them hard to treat. Seems to me a product mentioned that is a staple for this hobby could be a source of additional funding and they could possibly assist with the costs of production. I know that we would buy a few and my neighbors that have seen the plants growing in our front yard have expressed an intrest in growing A.G. Pumpkins next year and would likely want some as well. This is a great site and very informative. A book that can be brought out to our patch to compare the conditions would make it much easier on me for one! Would look to it on a daily basis I'm sure!
Count us in!

Excellent Idea, I'd include one with each set of seeds I give to Wannabeees with directions to the New Grower's Forum on this site. Would take a lot of pressure off of me trying to explain what it is we are trying to do!

You can put me down for one, too, pap. I have so many questions, and really only one person to talk to. He recommended this sight. Seems we can never co-ordinate our schedules to talk about how he grows his giants year after year. He does provide me with some help when I can catch up to him though.

another failure this year. Nice beautiful leafy plants the beginning of 3 pumpkins, and then, before I knew it, all the leaves wilted, turned brown and the vines died. I don't know if it's soil, too much watering, not enough, or the incredibly high temps we had here for 2 weeks. Just sad that my babies are dead. Would sure like to try again next year.
