Jeremy,
I have one fruit like with a similar looking area on the skin, as the ones in your diary. I have kept my pumpkin covered, except for maybe a couple times when the cover was blown off from wind. I don't think it is a sunburn, in my case. I don't know what caused it.

Chop it off and then you will be down to 2 pumpkins....then they should pick up some speed.

What are you covering it with? That is burn or leaf rash.

That looks more like something very abrasive has been rubbing against the fruit rather than it being sunburn. Lots of nicks and scaring. One has to be extremely careful around the young fruit as they are very susceptible to damage. A finger nail mark on a soft ball size fruit can turn into a 10 inch scar on a big pumpkin.

I cut off all my leaves around the pumpkins when they were all about softball size.
I cover them with beach towels and old white t-shirts now.

Thanks Joe, I have heard about you up here in Western New York.
So i take it there is nothing i can do to help this problem, just continue to cover them?

No way in hell i am culling them.

Jeremy as I am told often it ain't no beauty contest...weight is the main goal.
