Orange,CA

We live in Southern California and planted a couple Big Max plants on June 3. We now have two 20-pound pumpkins that are now turning bright orange. If we pick those, will more pumpkins grow?

normally when a plant reaches the stage of maturity and the fruit are ripe. The plant is switching over from growth mode to shut down mode. If you remove the pumpkins and give the plant a good dose of fish and kelp you may get more pumpkins. From experience this will not be the case. The plant is old and suffers easily from disease.

you should have no problem poroducing more pumpkins unless you have diseases like shannon stated stated and 90%of your plant is wiped out. If not hit it with some miricle grow. unless you a die hard organtic gardener and just want some pumpkins for halloween I wouldn't waste the money on fish and kelp....mark
