plywood is better than nothing i guess beech sand or millwire is best a sheeet of plastic of some sort someting a pumpkin can slide on while it grows and keeps it from touching the garden soil. normally right when it hits the ground. they can get heavy fast with in 30 days they can be well over 500 lbs. If you don't get anything under it I would say that you have a 25% chance that it will go down before the season is over. due to bugs rodents or fungial problems
best of luck mark

As soon as you can. My girlfreind always gets mad at me cause I wait to long then I get mad when Im lifting a 100 pound pumpkin and shes trying to position the plywood. Ive always had good luck with plywood hopefully this season if the bugs dont get me will be the same.
