every where a leaf come fron the vine of a pumpkin plant normally it will through out another vine and a blossom an roots from under the vine and if the vine is covered with dirt on top of the vine it will form roots on top of the vine.. most growers cover the vine with dirt where the leaf shoots to encrurage more rooting some grower just pin the main vine down and cover the side vines due to possible vine rot...mark

Hi newbie, every place on your vine where you have leaf stalks coming up (where there are leafs) the vine will send down roots into the dirt. These would be what someone was referring to if they were speaking of rooted nodes. They are leaf node roots. "Node" is referring to the part of the vine that bears the leaf. These roots are very beneficial to your plant and will supply extra nutrients and water to the overall plant and pumpkin. The only time you want to pull these out of the ground is within 3-4 ft on either side of a pumpkin you have growing on the vine (careful not to damage the vine) and it is easier just to snip them when the time comes. If you have not seen these on your plant yet such as if your plant is young, just watch your vines where you have leaves coming up and as your plant grows you will see a white root start to come out of the vine there. Hope that gives you a better understanding of what they are referring to. Good luck. AW

Thanks for your information, I believe I have seen these roots at the base of the leaves, I will reinvestigate them tomorow. Jim
