I've heard about placing calcium soaked towels or spraying calcium directly on the pumpkin, Is anyone trying this? I'd like to learn some about it.

I, for one am trying this this year. I spray the fruit and surrounding leaves with Foli-Cal.(1 cup to gallon water) I also add a cup when I fertilize overhead. (The towel keeps it from evaporating so fast.) Former world champ Dave Stelts uses it, and if it's good enough for him, it's good enough!

I'm also using it this year. I use it as a drench & as a foliar spray. And I also use it on soaked towels also. My squash has slowed quite a bit the last couple of days I'm hoping it's just because of the dramatic change in weather. We had heat index's of 110 degrees on Monday & last night I had to cover the squash with a blanket to help it keep a constant temp ( it dipped down to 47 degrees at my place). I may be wrong but a change like that can't be very good.
Oh yea! I almost forgot I'm also spraying my maters with the calcium also. Only time will tell how good it worked for me, but I'm very hopeful. A green squash sprayed with calcium....hmmmmmm....Mabey 25% heavy to the charts...I HOPE !!!

How often are you putting the stuff on? How much of the stuff to you use?
Paul, How are the "maters". My vines are 7 foot tall nothing of any size on them and I've pruned down to 3 fruit on the plant. I've planted them way to close to each other and they have taken over the high cold frame.

I have Pro-Cal which is 10% calcium but it is derived from calcium carbonate mixed with humic acid. Foli-Cal is calcium acetete with "penetrants and translocation aids". Do you think it maters which one I use?

Brian I'm toweling it off about every 3rd day, doing a foliar every 4th day & drenching it every 5 days.
And for my maters, my best measures appx. 17" in circ & goes 7" from stem to stern.
Also the brand I'm using is called Chelated Calcium Gold. I'll check the specs on it & e-mail it to you.
