How do you get the pumpkin to a 90 degree angle?

Sweat, tenacity, sand, foam blocks, bad words, Advil & often times the fool thing still isn't 90°.

The vine often moves easier then the pumpkin. I like to bend my vine at a 90 degree turn and then the pumpkin sits off the corner so it is actually 135 degrees away from each vine. This must be done fairly early in the pumpkins developement or the vine is too rigid and in the heat of the day, and before the main beyond the pumpkin is buried.
