Okay - well, now I'm really upset. :o( I dont want to pull ALL of the pumpkins and have decided to at least leave a couple. But again - how do I thin them, do I pull them out by the root - or do I cut them off at the base? Thanks for all of your help - I appreciate it!

I would pull them out unless they are tangled. If so, then I would cut them apart being careful not to cut vines I would like to keep.

Niffer, if the plants you want to keep are close to the plants you want to remove, pulling them up will disturb the roots of all the plants, not just the ones you want to remove. I'd take a razor knife and cut the plants you don't want off at the base to keep the root systems safe.
Good luck! Brian
