Sorry - here's more - All this talk about pollinating, tying things down, girl flowers and boy flowers are all scaring me. I thought I'd just plant some pumpkin seeds and have pumpkins! Is this hard??? It sounds HARD! Also, I planted my seeds in Miracle Grow garden soil which was poured ON TOP OF hard rocky dirt. I didn't think they'd even take - but boy have they! How deep do their roots have to be - the soild is about 4 inches or so...it doesn't seem to be hurting them as yet. Please advise...Thanks!...and sorry for being such a newby!

you would ideally like a few feet deep for your tap root, but you deal with what you got. Hopefully you can add some soil each year. As far as pollinating yourself dont bother your first year or two, let the bees do it.
good luck
