now that idecided to go with my one at 8ft iwas wondering do i cut the leafs off around the pumpkin and the secondarys also mine does not seem to be putting on that many inches each day i water once a week giving it about an inch and fish emulsion once a week is this enough.also thinking of putting tthree quarte inch plywood under the pumpkin will this do one more questin my main vine is about 22ft long i am running out of room can i cut it off

If your fruit is 8' out I would say you could terminate at 22'. Be sure and bury the end of it. I guess plywood would be okbut I would cover it with sand to let the fruit slide more easy as it grows. Personally I water 2 gallons every other day at the stump area and twice a week with the soaker hose (as long as we aren't getting any measureable rain. I think some growers are more aggressive with twatering but I don't want to blow my fruit up. I think it's ok to take off a couple leaves right around the pumpkin "IF" you are going to put up a shade structure. As far as side vines you will probably find that eventually you will have to remove at least one if the fruit starts growing over it. Just my 2 cents worth...oh yeah, inflation makes it 3 cents.
