I know this question has probally been asked a hundred times but how long do you let the secondaries grow before you bury them? Ive been burying the vines and there about 10 feet long now. Ive been pinching off the runners but Im just wondering how many feet should I let the secondaries grow. Thanks

We bury seconadaries as time permits even if they're only 4-5 ft long. We terminate their growth at 12' at which point the entire thing is buried.

One question about the secondaries when they reach twelve feet tou basically pinch or cut the tip off and then bury that right?

Yes, wait a day to let the tips air dry, then bury.

how about the vines that run perpendicular out of the stump from the main vine.......
can you cut these 2 vines or not?
i have like 10-12' secondry vines with a female on them and one of these 2 vines has a female but the other does not so i was thinking of cutting the one off?

Jeremy,
Most growers that I know keep the basalcrown are free of leaves & vines. New for us this year we're keeping our fist secondaries right at 2 feet. Those growing closer to the crown were removed.

Bury all secondaries as they grow leaving the last 1-2 feet out to allow growth. When the secondary vine is 12 ft long, cut the end off at a leaf junction to stop it's growth. Bury all of the rest after the cut tip has dried a day or two.
This year we have removed the first secondary vines if it grew within 2 feet of the crown (stumps are dead trees! LOL). No growth of any kind is kept on the main near the crown. Remove ALL leaves & vines in at least the first foot of main but this year we're cleaning up to 2 feet.
I can't yet rationalize this "clean stump" thing but better growers than me do it so we're trying it. LOL

Jeremy - Don't cut the secondary "off" unless it is in the way or making for a messy plant. The perpendicular vines that come out of the main (secondaries) are often let to get 10-12 feet long and then are cut at the end so that they won't grow anymore. The vines are not removed, but rather forced to stop growing. Any vines that come out of the secondaries (tertiaries) are cut off right away. As far as girls on the secondaries, it would be much better to pollinate on the main if you can.
