We have a plant that the first two leaves are disintegrating. Not sure why. I am posting a picture on our diary showing as close as our camera will focus. This is our biggest plant and its my daughters "pumpkin plant friend". It is showing half of the stump in a lighter green, almost white in the are of the worst leaf. can anyone explain what I need to do to be assured of not losing my daughters friend to this if it is a problem? The sunlight might be too bright in that image for us to see....what is wrong?

Looks like you are talking about your COTS (the pumpkin seed shaped leaves) dying away. That is normal. Is that plant double-vined? Almost looks like two leaves at each node.

Yes, i can see the light may not show that area well. yes, also talking about the cots, but the problem we are worried about is the area of the stump that is discolored. It is starting below the area where the cotts have grown from the vine and is getting bigger. As far as double vining, it just started to vine day before yesterday so we are not sure if that is the case(or even what that would look like if it were). I will try to get another picture after the sun has moved from the plant for you Tremor. The area that is discolored is not soft at this time. How can I tell if it is double vining and would that be a problem later stormrat16?

The Chester Family! If you are worried you're main vine may be in a state of rot or similar, use captan:

In no way do I endorse this website, only make use of it for viewing and educational purposes.
Great for use on open wound parts of the plant and smearing into cracks. Double vine is when you have two of things at each node, so you may notice two tendrils, two leaf stalks, two flowers, two heads on the main under close inspection. If caught early enough you can pinch one head out and the other will continue on normally, that is hopefully, under close supervision.
