Ants are all over the vines why? What can I do about it? other than that I have not seen one bug all year. Also one of my main vine has a small twist with a crack (near the stump) 1 foot away. from the wind I think. I went back a few weeks on the message board and read about something called captan, will this work for me and how do you use it?

Aphids maybe..?....they secrete a sugary substance that ants crave.

catan is for drying and sealing cracks. i have ants too, so far they havnt been doing anything harmful to my plants so i just leave them and mabey they will help the bees. Do they do anything harmful?

How about catan sealing a couple of round wet spots, (they look messy with bumps in them )? Can you seal over damp areas?

its captan and i've never used it but i geuss you would just sprinkle the stuff on and around the spot but make sure those are vine borer holes

I have millions of ants traversing my vines as well. I don't have aphids.. (have garlic plants in between the vines) so I don't know what they're doing. Except that southern California has a blight of zillions of Argentine ants. They march by the millions - so I just figutre they're using the vines as shortcuts.
