Hey all,

Back again this year for a shot at a big one, but I have a problem. My main vine started to twist on itself and split. It seems to have stopped now, but I am wondering if I am out of luck or if burying the vine will help out?

Not sure why the twisting started I let it vine out itself hopfully this is the last of it. I am starting another plant just in case this one is not good.

Hope everyone season is going well.

Possible cause was the wind, use plastic coat hangers cut in half or sticks crossed to stake your vines down. Let the vine dry out, then one can bury it to keep the insects from finding refuge. Set up wind protection to protect.

Thanks Wiz, I'll get on this tonight. How are your plants doing? Mine is about 3-4 ft right now with the secondaries starting to vine now

Some of Mine are at the 3 ft stage with a female already that will come off once its outside the tip. Winds today 35-45 MPH with gusts to 60 was picking up dirt and throwing it......, temp is 81 with a cold front coming, overnight lows to dip to 40 again....Your basic Colorado day. Stake your babies down and create a wind barrier, thats what Im doing here in 1 hr. Good Luck

I had that problem last year with one of main vines right above the base of the plant. It was pretty wide open. I took four twist ties and gently used it like a suture and pulled the edges together. I painted it with a capton mixture and kept it dry. It healed without difficulty. Remove the twist ties when healed or loosen them if the vine grows Other is wise will damage the vine.

Indian, I certainly will give you a email sometime. My patch is really nothing more than my backyard and some small plots. I am running the risk of being to small by alot, but oh well. Ill drop you an email about coming down and seeing your patch. Also will be nice to talk shop with someone semi-close
