Hi! My plants are ready to go out but I don't have a proper coldframe...and my husband isn't in any hurry to build me one. I have some large rectangular clear rubbermaid containers, (about three feet long by two feet wide and almost a foot high) if I take off the lid and flip them over on top of the plants will they work as coldframes? Thank you!

Wobbles,
Cool name. They should work for you in a pinch. many years ago I used to use 5 gallon buckets to cover my plants. I would highly suggest using gallon jugs or other jugs filled with water to have sitting besides your plants under the containers. The water heats up during the day and is slow to cool to the freezing point. These may prevent your plants from getting too cold. Frost protection is a must and if you can't have a heat source try containers of water.

thanks! I put one out today in the rubbermaid...with a couple of large juice jugs filled with water to keep him warm. I'm going to have to take it off during the day or the little guy will get cooked for sure, but its still really cold here at night.

Well, you guys are both right. There is no PC way to say this, but our pumpkins are hermaphrodites, but we love them anyhow. LOL.
