Garden State Pumpkins

As you know I have been having a hard time getting a fruit to start. I've been leaving them on till they start to turn white..just in case...Now one that been hanging in there has suddenly turned shiny and looks to be growing. but it's got to be three weeks ago it was fertilized. Is this possible? or just growth before the abort?

Chuck,
I see growth in just a couple days. I would think after three weeks it would be 70+ lbs. I dont no what to tell ya buddy. Your not doing any thing freaky in front of them that might be scareing them? I got sets in 110 deg. but I have also lost my share. Good luck hope it turns around for ya.

I feel bad for ya alexsdad, if'in ya want I can send ya down one of my 2lb culls. It ain't nothing great and it probably won't grow if ya duck tape it to the vine but it gives ya something maybe a little bigger than yer's to look at.

Seriously I do feel really bad, I hate when a good sport like you gets down on his luck, but da season isn't over just yet. Like Ken says I hope it turns around for you and I mean that.

Best of Luck

I am having the same problem alesdad. This is my first season and it is REALLY dissapointing. I have 2 females left, and I think one that is 5 days old and is 7. inches around might abort and I have 1 that is 5 inches around and I am hoping!!!!! I wonder why some pumpkins don't have many females? I certainly have'nt and I have heard that on other peoples' comments. I have had a lot of males.
After all this work, I want something to look at!
Just sharing the feelings. Mary

Hang in there Mary...Pappy didn't get a good male last year!! this year was going for a state record! Come the end of August the plant has to do something for itself. And even last years pumpkin put five or six little ones on...It's like watching water boil! You get something! Hey Grow em big! ...and if ya can't grow em anyway the neighbors love to watch!

I'll tell ya what. This thing is sitting on the end of a terminated secondary has a stem split right in front of it and it's not turning white. but hasn't reached softball size yet! All the others had maggots in them by now! Still no soil tests back... You say nitrogen will blow em up...I'm gonna whack this plant with nirogen and see what happens!
