Silly Seeds

Port Elgin, Ontario, Canada

It's been since Saturday night - I started the germination process....soak seeds, transfer to towel, etc.........When do I give up and start over?

One molded or rotted, two left still look good.

I've had seeds take almost 2 weeks. I see so many folks giving up on seeds too quickly. I've found that stripping the seed coat off a stubborn seed and putting the embryo in a fresh damp paper towel will show radicle germination in most cases less than 48 hours. A steady, constant 85 degrees is key also. If you've got mold and rot it sounds like your paper towel is too wet. If you can wring out more than 1 or 2 drops from it, it's too wet.

I had an 845 Bobier take 12 days to pop in '05. I had already given up on it so the towel was getting dry on the edges when it decided to finally grow.

If you see mold the conditions might be too wet.

Iv tryed paper towel method for heck of it , But found very poor results ,, I will stick to seed starting mix , It works very good !! Dont keep watering mix #1 reason seeds fail !!
