This will be my second try at winning the crown at the Nagydobos Pumkin Festival. Last year my cousins tended the pumkins while I was away. When I came back two weeks before the competition, I found they had left three pumpkins on one vine...all were about 100 lbs. We came in 4th. I bought the seeds from my local nursery, and the package said they could grow up to 800 pounds. They plant the last week in April, and I have to trust this as the family has lived there for 800 years. They mixed chicken manure into the soil last week. I will be there for 3 weeks in April and May, and again in July. Any tips for setting up in April & tending in July so that I don"t face disappointment in September?
