I'm just trying to get some ideas for seed starting containers, I'm trying to save money and be as creative as I have to be, any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks

We use 6 inch pvc tubes 18 inches long. Others use empty Ice Cream containers. You are going to take the plant out of the container when you transplant into the garden.

10" Sewer & Drain pipe about 14" long. Cut & hinged back together with some creative use of duct tape. The bottom can be an old Tee-shirt.

Go to a garden centre/nursery and they throw them out at an alarming rate.

A few years back when I was doing a seedling give-away for our local contest, our local garden centre saved me a few hundred of them and they were happy that they were not going in the trash.

Find a shop/nursery that makes hanging baskets and you will have all the seed starting container you need.

I'm using 5"peat pots with large holes (bigger than a pencil) spaced around the pot and a couple extras in the bottom. Never seem to have had any problem with the roots getting bound and don't have to worry about disturbing the roots when transplanting into the patch.

Im thinking of using the bigger peatpots and bigger holes this year then putting into the pipes as its too difficult to germinate with Steves pots on a germination mat, too much heatsink to heat up.....just a thought.

Eat more ice cream!!!! Peace, Wayne Round gallon paper containers, cut out bottom, put lid back on, which is now the bottom. When planting time comes, remove lid (bottom of pot) and slide out into the hole. Bingo....1500 #er!!! LOL

Gary,

I start the seeds in baggies layered in towels on an old heating pad. Not very technical - but it works. Then they go into the big pots.
