How long is the pollen in a male flower good for? Should I cut off all male flowers in the evening that are no longer "good"; so that come morning you can tell which ones are newly opened and not confuse them with ones that may look ok but are beyond their prime? just wondering what techniques other growers are using. Thanks

Tie your males that are going to open next morning..

I only use "fresh" pollen from males that have opened the same day as the females. Some folks last year experimented with freezing pollen, but I don't remember what their success rate was after the freezing process.

I´m experimenting with freezing males because I´m running out and some females are ahead...checked some 4 days old males in the fridge tonight - still smelling fresh, looking okay - left them as complete flowers.

The night before, I tie my females and the males I'll be using with a paper towel rolled diagonally (to make it longer) and wet it if necessary. I make a single tie/knot around the flower about 1/2 way down the flower cone. Come morning, I know which female and which male or males, as they are still tied shut and don't have to worry about any other males. The ticket is tying them females up.

John go up to the top of the page and type in "males" in the search box you will have more answers than you know what to do with. Scroll down past grower diaries if you want and see tons of previous message board posts from the last 2 years.

Thought this would help as I just did this, looking for info for my males that will open tommorow.
