geez! I cant believe my neigbors. They think you can just dig up the soil and plant something. My soil is terrible. Lots of rocks, and it needs to be amended. That is, it needs work, and I have worked hard to dig up my parking strip. I had to use a pick ax to do the job. I have had my neighbors come out and basicaly say, are you done yet? This after only two days of work. I am also pretty sore after weilding a 5 pound pick ax. Its getting there though. Just venting lol

No offense to you neighbors but it take a lot of work to keep the patch and soil up in shape. You are not harming them and they can let you be man!!! Hey it's your yard!!!!! Well at least I feel that way. Steve

Jaba, Your fellow growers in the Seattle area are ready to help you with your soil ammendments....that is after you have done all the back-breaking rock removal. Geneva, the reigning world champion, is happy to help newcomers. She lives in the Issaquah area. I began with solid clay 1 1/2 years ago, so I know how hard it is to build up the soil. It is vital if one is to grow a pumpkin over 500 pounds.

JTH, the rocks you take out this year make room for the ones lower to move up. So you'll be doing it a long time. SOmeone posted earlier but I believe it was the seattle area that TAGRO is available out there. DId down and pile High, good luck!

Hi Jaba - check out this link: http://www.ci.tacoma.wa.us/tagro/default.htm It should answer all your questions on the product. The stuff sounds pretty good and cheap to boot. I kinda wish I had access to this stuff here in Portland. I'm a newbie, and working with solid clay. Good luck - Ceis

Omg! Its processed human poop! EWWWWW!!! just a first reaction to Talgo. Actually, my neighbor said in Asia, they use what is called "night soil" in their gardens. Same thing, I think. She said a long time ago, she had an Asian lady who would come out and put this mysteriois stuff around her plants. She thinks it might have been "night soil". Said she had the best looking tomatoes on the block.

Yeh, but it is "super heated" poop! It is 50% processed poop, 25% sand and 25% sawdust.

When I lived in Vancouver, B.C, there was a similar product called Milorganite which is processed sewage from the Iona island sewage treatment plant that serves greater Vancouver. It's a fine, brown granular mix that's sold in nearly every garden shop in the lower mainland. Comes in 20Kg bags and is relatively cheap. And it's great for gardens of all kinds. Here I'm using sheep manure. with a few secret additives of my own.

Thanks guys for the info, Im really looking forward to trying my hand at AG next year. My Howden pumpkins look alot happier out in the patch. Next year it wont be such a killer to dig in the garden. Who knows, I might get inspired to expand the patch......NOT. I think Ill take a break from rocks for a while. LOL Barbara
