Subject: how to generate female flowers

This year my biggest balcony pumpkin was 17.5kg = 39 pounds. (see pic in the Photo Gallery)
Twice the size of last year, but I have a feeling it could have been bigger, because this was a secondary-vine pumpkin. My primary vine just roared from one end of the balcony to the other (18 feet) without producing any female flowers. At the end I had to chop it off several times.
Is there any way to tell a pumpkin plant "enough is enough, I want some female flowers now" ?

It's funny but since the cooler temps have arrived here the 1153 is throwing them like candy! No idea if this is the reason but just an observation. I think the plant is sensing the end is near and giving one last kick at the can to reproduce like annuals do.

Possibly reduce the nitrogen and increase or add the kelp meal.

Try some foliar applications of a high phosphorus fert.

Deb, not just funny, but absolutely hilarious, relating cool temps with females, and then talking bout them like "candy"...almost sounds like somethin I would have said, or tasted????...the candy that is!!!! Peace, Wayne PS...sorry, forgot this was a family site!!!!!!! LOL
