My soil is mostly rock with a clay binder. I have ordered a load of loam for this weekend, would like to get it placed before the wife gets back from the fair :)

All the possible locations are in full sun with the woods at the north border. I will make a raised bed with logs & try to keep the loam at 12"-16". Now would the GP plant(s) like a wet location at the bottom of the loam or a drier location? Would they like to be below the field drain (along the outflow) or above the drain in a much drier area? Watering is possible in all areas as I already have 2) 1/4" drip lines in those general areas.

Pumpkins don't like wet feet, so stay above your drain outlet. If you only have 12" - 16" of loam, your rooting depth will be very limited. Try to break up the clay if you can and work some organic matter into it before placing your loam on top. The raised beds is a good idea, as it will warm up quicker in the spring.
