Been reading and listening again. My 625 is flattening out. Had three warm days last week and all new growth looked round. Now it's cold again and its going flat again. My question is this genetic or a defiency. I have laid way back on nitrogen this year because of last year. I see a lot of people growing the 625 posts and only a few have the problem. and they seemed to be doing okay now. Right Pappy your 625 came back? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Chuck

Yes Chuck, The 625 flatvined for a couple of ft. and then split into two separate vines. I eeny, meeny, miny, mowed, and pinched the loser. Then I buried the vine. Has been a normal plant since then and has a few set fruit.

I think the flat vine may be genetic, or other factors may also contribute. Don't give up hope, Chuck , my 673# pumpkin last year was on a flat vine.

Okat Kilr, Last night G asked if there were double anything and I said no. but this morning new growth is double leaves double tendrils etc. Wait and pick one or pinch both and go to a secondary. Only worry there is the secondaries aren't out enough to tell if they're flat too. I was going it to give it this week to see what it wants to do but if I should be doing something sooner I will, Gads said he did something to his double and the main is better then ever. I just couldn't follow the explaination.

When my main flatvined, I waited a few days, and the vine split into two vines.I waited a few more to see what grew. One vine was nice and round, the other also flat. I removed the flat vine and kept the better looking. The main vine ran flat for about 8" before it split into 2, I covered it with soil and everything was fine. I had no problems with any vine on the plant going flat after that.

Thanks Guys, Looks like nice weather this week so I should get some good growth, I am gonna watch it and see if one of the split vines looks round and pinch off the other one, and go from there.

Billy again I'm not the expert on this. But I'm learning. A round vine is tough enough to move where ya want it to be without splitting it. A flat vine is next to impossible. The stump mound right now is hills and valleys following the vine because I had to follow the vine up and down with the weather trying to get it to lay down without cracking. Now that it finally doubled it looks like I have a round and flat going. to early to tell but will either terminate them both and go to a secondary or wait and make sure the one truely went round. The flat vine keeps curling around itself like a fire hose being wrapped up. I finally got it low enough and put a stake across it to hold it down and buried everything right to there. It also seemed to hold the vine growth rate down throwing doubles have to suck the power from the plant. two of everything from one support system. I'm gonna post a new one tonite for next step suggestions. Good Luck let me know how ya make out!
