Im planting pumpkins for Halloween this year. The variety is Howden. I am going to try to grow a giant pumpkin next year.
Anyway, Im planting them out on my parking strip which is 10x26. My mom thinks im taking a chance on someone trying to steal them when they are ripe. Has anyone had that problem? And what did you do about it if anything. JabbatheHutt

If you grow an AG giant pumpkin they can't lift it...No problem.

Hi Jabbathehut:
I'll spin ya some yarn on that subject.I had a 350lb pumpkin on my lawn a few years back and a 400lb+ next to it.everything was fine untill a week or so before Halloween. One morning while leaving for work i noticed that someone had made off with my 350lb Gourd. All they left me was a couple of seeds on my lawn where they apparently dropped it while trying to make a clean getaway, all i could do was have a good laugh, and think to myself, who would do such a thing!!Since then i havent had any of my lawn pumpkins taken.Knock on wood.Im also a firm beleaver that most people are honest and wouldent bother anyones garden. If you don't have any problem with Howdens this year then you should be golden when you switch to A-G's next year.Good luck.John

i think it depends on what kind of neighborhood you
live it...
i'd be more worried about someone poking a hole or
putting their initials in it - than stealing it...
but unfortunatly that it happens.

I would love to see someone try to take a 1000+ pounder off of someone's lawn!
