My plant with the biggest pumpkin (450 pounds and has slowed considerably) is now acting like a totally new plant. New growth, new females and new vines everywhere. I am considering just letting it go as the pumpkin is only growing a few pounds a day and getting some more jack-o would be good for the neighbors. I am also worried that if it keeps going it would split. I am happy with the size for a rookie season and just want to make it to the weigh off now.
Is this growth spurt normal for pumpkins?

Eric,
If the weather changes from bad to good & the fruit isn't too old, then "yes", later season growth spurts can & do happen. Consider yourself blessed by the mighty pumpkin spirits!

I hope that is true Tremor. As you know it's been cold and rainy here in CT the last few days and my pumpkin has slowed considerably. I hope your right and when the sun comes back she starts to gain weight again. Mark

Stop all the new growth..It's draining what could be going to the pumpkin now...try and keepit going.
