This is my first post here and I hope o leanr many things from the site. The two pumpkins I have been taking daily measurements on have only been growing 1-2 inches daily. I water them when it gets dry and have been giving triple 15 monthly. What shgould i add to the fertalizer program to increase growth. Just to add they were not good seeds, just plain mail order. I will get good seeds for next year. any help would be apprecited. thankyou!

good seeds will make the biggest difference to start with. you should start prep for next season. organic matter of any sort that you can add to your soil will get you a good result with the proper seeds. i like to stay away from the ferts myself. fish seaweed and some liquid calcium sprayed on as a foliar application is a good practice to use. also most people get a soil test to find out were they stand on everything before the planting season. i say most but i haven't done one yet. lol. do a lot of reading here and i am sure your season will be much better next year. btw watch the seed exchange board this fall and winter and you will get all the free seeds you could ever need.

you need to get your soil tested so that you can find what your missing, without it whatever you do is a shot in the dark and may do more harm than good. But for now change your fertilizer to something like 15-15-30. As well if this is your first year you may need to prune your plant a bit. and only have one fruit on.

the best thing to do would be to meet with someone in your area that grows them well. seeing how someone else does it is the best learning tool we have. there's alot of helpful growers in RI, i'm sure one of them will post on here.

thanks for all the imput. I do know Joe jutras lives dfive minutes away, and i know he grows good ones. For the calcium is it just calicum chloride or is it something special? i will have the soil tested and will also get way better seeds next year. I have alot of hen manure i the ground put in last fall and also a loot of wood ash. another question how do you use the fish?

Hay there,, be sure and bury all those vines and prune all tertiary growth (suckers).Keep one fruit on the main and most importantly be patient! Keep the plant evenly moist they seem to like being foilarly fertilized/watered in the mornings.

Good Luck! Gerry
