I've seen the benchmarks for growing a 1000 pound pumpkin, but are there any benchmarks for us newbie's? For say 500 lbs?
I have some pumpkins impressive by my low standards(18 days 45" circumference), but they are going to fall way short of the 1000 pound benchmark and it would be great to have numbers for those of us aspiring for much smaller sizes!!

Pa, I would do cartwheels for 45" at day 18...I made 45" at day 14, and 45" at day 15, and 45" at day 16,...etc, etc, etc,...and then I noticed the big white rotten spots. Point I am trying to make is...day 18 is not near as important as day 50 or 60 or 70!!!!! Peace, Wayne PS...Have cut 5 or more 30" 12 to 14 day old rotten pkns off this year!!!!!!! Too hot...too humid.

Slow and steady, and set your own benchmark at a weighoff, bring what you grow , thats the fun in it, 500 easy if you keep plant, and pumpkin healthy, the factor of long term steady growth sometimes wins the race.

Thanks... as long as the woodchucks don't eat any more pumpkins I think I'll end up with a good one!

Pa, a couple of years ago, when I first went crazy...LOL...I read 10 days, 20"...20 days 40"...30 days, 60"...these numbers have increased a lot today...this year I read...26'...60"...100"...or something like that...these are the big benchmarks....if I could ever bring one to a scale that weighed 300# or more I will consider myself a heavy hitter!!!!!!!!!! I guarantee 200# or more will turn a lot of heads...and bring a lot of smiles from the wee ones....that's why I try, and try, and try....Peace, Wayne

I was looking at the benchmarks too and was wondering what benchmarks I need to hit in order to double my pb of 204.5 lbs.
Why not fire an email of to Russ Landry (kahuna4) to see if he has stats for smaller pumpkins. If not, he may see it as a fun challenge to develop a way to interpolate his data to approximate benchmarks for 500 pounders. Since the chart is in Excel (find it on the GVGO website at gvgo.ca), maybe it would be easy enough for me to figure out.
