So, what is up with my patch sprouting mushrooms? Too wet? The plants and the worms love the drip system, but now I see mushrooms. Any thoughts??

Matt. Did you use any spent Mushroom Compost when preparing that Pumpkin Patch for Emma ? or are the Mushrooms not of the regular edible type ?

my soil amendments are all store bought. Steer manure, potting soil and piles of coffee grounds from Starbucks. Gosh, I hope my coffee does not have mushrooms in it.

Mushrooms or toadstools, I am no fungal expert, it just looks liek a mushroom.

On a side note, I pulled another plant that I broke and then did some digging to see how the root ball developed. I cannot believe the number of worms. My prior post on worms must have called them all out. i guess the organic material is good for 'shrooms and worms. I just hope it is good for pumpkins.

Fungi can not grow if your OM is not good or if the moisture is not right. Sounds like you really worked up a good start.

I also have a bunch or mushrooms growing in my patch. I think I got some spores from my horse manure. They look like the mushrooms that grow from mushroom copost. They last for a few days and then shrivel up and die.

Turken. If they are genuinley Edible Mushrooms why not cut them off at ground level while still very young, take them to an awaiting pan of hot butter and garlic and have a tasty fry-up. Some good chopped smoked bacon in with that makes a great spread on some toast, and break a lightly poached egg or two over that. Thats made me hungry....time to get the pan out.
