Should runners, leafs, and secondary be trimed from around a fertilized female. The three growth's at it's stem. To make room to position the pumpkin.

In the past I waited until I knew the pumpkin set...BUT this year I decided to see if trimming the tertiary and leaf when it is still small helps get the pumpkin in position easier. So far it seems to be working well. Mark

The only problem I have seen is that you need to make an artificial shade structure for the new pumpkin (if it is not shaded by other leaves)so it doesn't get cooked in the sun.

I usually don't trim untill they start to interfear with the developing fruit i.e. leaf stem starts to rub the pumpkin etc. You really can't start to reposition untill there over 10 days old anyway
