The best thing that I can pass on to you new growers is something that was passed on to me which sums up the total AG experience in a nut shell.
""Do what is natural for the plant""" watch it closely and it will communicate it's needs to you.
Secondly,,get the BOOKS~~ "How to Grow World Class Giant Pumpkins I, II & III" If you can't afford them new then go to ebay for used ones.
This sport is filled with great people so ask hundreds of questions and be 100% committed because these AG's don't grow by accident. So do your homework not to just grow a big pumpkin, but a World Record Atlantic Giant Pumpkin. Best regards.Jon

As a rookie grower I can say this to other rookies, Broken Root is exactly right! Even though this is my first year with the AG"s I have been a study for about 2 years now. I have read (and reread) How to "Grow Giant Pumpkins I, II, and III". These books are VALUABLE reading! Last year was my practice year. I grew the "Big Max" variety and got 123lb pumpkin, mainly because of info gained from the books and reading the posts here from experienced growers. Since the beginning of last year I check this message board almost daily and read the posts and replies from the experienced guys here. If you have questions not already answered here they are more than glad to help. Not only can valuable info be gained here but friendships can be made as well. THANK YOU MrD&Me for all the seeds you gave me to start out with as well as your help and friendship!

GET OUT NOW !!! WHILE YOU STILL CAN!...Remember this you have been warned...Once you get hooked on these, things definitely change...Old dung piles look great..."can I take you coffee grounds" becomes common place...looking for an edge on BP.com becomes five times daily...maybe more...waiting for the pilgramage to Niagara Falls...bidding on way to high priced seeds..etc... but the madness is great...got 2000 feet covered by trees but someday I'll get the soil right! LOL...GrowEmBig! Chuck
