My plants (the good ones) are only about 4 feet long now, but are growing quickly and the male flowers are starting to occur. Will there be "alot" of females on the plant such that if the first is only at 5 feet and I want at say 8-10, I will have the luxury of picking or should I set "all" fruit and then cull to one per main and/or secondary based on position, etc.

you should see females every few feet, so I would wait till at least 10' to keep one

Okay, so I see my first female coming out. Still in the VERY new growth, but at the speed they are growing, it will be out tomorrow. My question is, how long til it is ready to pollinate? I am going on vacation for a bit and wanted to know if I will be home or if this particular one will be "open pollinated" It is only about 4-5 feet from the stump so prolly not going to keep it anyway but was trying to find out for future timing. Also need male timing please.
Thanks

Petman, garysand...depends on how close you are looking...from first sighting of female flower...maybe 1/3 of a pea in size...it might be more than 10 days...ya gotta be lookin close to find them when they are still that small, but I pick 'em off my secondaries almost every day at that size. Seriously. Peace, Wayne

About the size of a large pea or small grape now. However I just also realized I have no "available" males yet so .....

10-16' seems about the ideal but some folks like them even farther out if they can get that much vine behind them in time.

In time being the first week or so of July? I've got lots of time then. Growing 4-6 inches when the sun actually shines and is warm!
