Is it possible to determine which direction the vine will naturally grow toward? I'm germiating my seeds right now and when I move them to their permenant home in a couple weeks I would like to plant them so that the vine will grow in a certain direction. Or do you just have to direct them yourself?
Thanks!

99.9% in the opposite direction of the first true leaf.

ditto to what owen said. i had one that didn't cooperate last year but you can turn then slowly useing bamboo sticks or what ever you have handy. i used some of those fireplace matches and fondu sticks to stake vines with last year. always try to move vines in the hotter part of the day to avoid breaking them.

They're right. I learned the hard way. Last year I was planting all my gourds to grow up a fence, and I planted them with the first leaf pointing towards the fence thinking that's the way they would grow. I was wrong and had to train them all and tie them up 'till they hung on to the wire on their own.
