I asked the same thing once. The AG's are the ones that get above 400 or so pounds. There is no real way to tell definitavely. The AG is basically the only thing used in giant pumpkin competitions. It is so universal right now that when we talk "pumpkins" we are most assuredly talking about the Dill's Atlantic Giant. AleX Noel.

Not for sure, but...I think that Atlantic Giant comes from Howard Dill...Dill's Atlantic Giant was a seed stock of giant pumpkins that was perfected and patented by Howard Dill. The patent prevented anyone else from selling the seeds...lots of trades happened and therefore the plethora of seeds available today. The seed patent has expired and now anyone can sell AG seeds. Therefore beware of what you buy. As a fellow nu-B, my advice would be to send polite emails to the other, incredibly generous growers on this site, ask for seeds, do research, learn, and have fun...fun is the best part.
