I've read a lot about starting seeds. I read somewhere about mixing flour or cornmeal in with the potting mix. That when it rots it would feed the plant. If this is true I can get tons of ground corn to til into my garden.

Adding corn meal to the soil is beneficial it increase microbial activity. Flour I think would make a sloppy sticky mess.

Corn meal feeds the worms too. Flour, as Shannon said, globs up and stops the water from getting through. AleX Noel.

Corn meal benefits bacteria & worms & might even have some anti-fungal properties. Good stuff. Flour I would keep in the kitchen for now.

In practice or use 20 lbs. of corn meal per 1000 sq. ft. is what I suggest. Do this for three years and then you may cut the application in half.

Corn meal has excellent anti-fungal properties. If you happen to have foot problems and the two fungicides at the drug store no longer give good results go, to a corn meal tea soaking your feet fifteen minutes daily untill the problem goes away. Follow with one soaking a week to maintain the treetment. I have personally cleared up ring worm when topical medicine would not work using the corn meal in a paste form. Records of early armies report similar use for man and beast.

The anti-fungal qualities is the major reason for using it within your patches.
