What's the difference between an exhibition pumpkin and a competition pumpkin? Sorry, I went to last year's weigh off but didn't bring a pumpkin and I'm wondering should I enter the contest this year? Thanks, Greg

Exhibition pumpkin is one that is offically weighed, but not eligible for prize money. That happens when you have 2 nice ones in the patch and can only enter one pumpkin at the weigh off.

Thanks everyone, Does it usually cost to enter an exhibition pumpkin and still be weighed?

Matfox, I thought that damaged ones would be classified as "exhibition" at weighoffs. Maybe I'm wrong. I'm planning on bringing a damaged pumpkin to a weighoff this fall.

Mattfox is wrong. If a pkn or squash is brought for exhibition it is an exibition pumpkin. There is no judging of exh fruit so there cant be a "judgement" put on it like DMG.

Sure there can. You can bring a DMG (Pumpkin is probbed and found not to be sound "you can enter the pumpkins hollow middle with the probe") fruit to be officialy weighed on a certified scale at a sanctioned site and put it in the weigh off as EXH only. But as far as the rest of the world and the AGGC is concerned it's a DMG fruit. The EXH fruit designation just dis-qualifies it from an official ranking amongst the competitors at the site (1 thru whatever) and prize money of the GPC certified site.

A DG fruit is damaged. A EXH fruit is not DMG. See it as you want, so is it. The only thing they have in common is that they are officaly weighed,

Lets not get too worked up about it. It's just a term used at weighoffs, as I see it. If you go Pumpkinnook.com, you can see the listing of fruit weights at weighoffs, so far this year. At Durham(I think it is) Matthew DeBacco's DMG fruit is listed under exhibition pumpkins.

Some are listed as exhibition if ineligible for prizes due to fact they already entered or won another contest. . .some places won't give a prize to a pumpkin that won last week somewhere else. . .but they encourage grower to bring and "show" it

So, exhibition pumpkins are officially weighed although they are not considered for official ranking nor prize money. But, depending on the weigh-off, there may be a fee to have an exhibition pumpkin weighed. thanks! Greg
